Gert Biesta spoke about the importance of world-centred education; today, we welcomed renowned full-time changemaker Melati Wijsen. She captured our attention by highlighting the power of hashtag#storytelling in driving change. Not only through her own real-world stories (“yesterday I was still at the UN in Paris”), or her practical tips on how to craft a compelling narrative, but especially by giving the floor to students.
Our students shared insights from their research and explored how we can engage others — including colleagues across Windesheim — in recognising its importance.
We are collaborating with Windesheim, YOUTHTOPIA and multiple universities of applied sciences.
I am grateful for the exchange and for the realization that education, as Gert Biesta argues, is ultimately about redirecting our attention toward the question: What does the world ask of me?
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
